The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding, admittedly, has been tougher with baby Alexander (compared with Aidan). Alexander, just like Aidan, had no problem latching on since his birth at Mount Alvernia hospital. I recalled he was all so tiny, wrapped/swaddled up like a cocoon when he was in the hospital. The nurses were helpful in bringing him for breast milk every 3 hours or so. Invested in the Korean Spectra S1 pump (kind advice given by colleague Karen). The first 3 nights post discharge from hospital was tough as I was co-sleeping with Alexander & was breastfeeding him almost constantly! The tough part was him not sleeping whenever I tried putting him down onto the Lucky Baby's Dreemee co-sleeping cot. Hubby ordered The First Few Years' travel co-sleeper & some nights became much better! I started pumping out on 4 April 2019 (8th day from Alexander's birth) & yielded 80ml (had to pump because we had to attend Aidan's FIRST prize-giving ceremony at St Stephen's for him coming in FIRST in his class P5E last year!) So proud of him! Average yield though ranged from 70-180ml (180ml was yielded only towards 5/6 weeks in the wee hours in the morning, between 02:00-03:00am). Hate to compare, but I could yield 270ml during Aidan's years (probably older/more stressed body now at age 40/41). The first month was also tough on the nipples & the lansinoh nipple cream really helped to soothe.
